RE: Who else doesn't have a television in their RV?

Our TT connection has something wrong with it. I can't get television, no matter what I do. My husband (electronics specialist) believes it is wired incorrectly behind the walls. We have a tv connected to a vcr. We bring a couple of old movies for truly rainy nasty days. Other than that, we LOVE being without it. We had no tv in our home for the first six months of our marriage, until my mother ruined it with a Christmas present. We listened to the radio for news, music, sports, and took long after dinner walks together when the dishes were done. Feels like old times when we are in the trailer. ;)

RE: For a Change...

Thank you for stopping to help a frustrated woman and child on their attempt to use an awning.
Thank you for teaching your children to respect other people's property when it is left out at a campsite.
Thank you for asking to pet my dog when we are on a walk.
Thank you for caring enough to snatch your children away from electronics and teach them about the beauty in simplicity.
There are more well-behaved people out there than bad. We just notice the bad more often, because it so appalls us.

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

travelingfools, I have thought of that. I am afraid it will leave a sticky residue behind. I have actually had the stuff pull wood away from a window frame when I took it down, so I am reluctant. Anyone have good luck with it? Anybody have a way of getting rid of the sticky tape residue on metal framing> How is it on the paint?

Does anyone have a way to insulate the windows without blocking the light? We don't have double window panes, and the chill is awful sometimes?

The foam could sure increase my camping season. It gets darn chilly here in Alaska in September and October sometimes.

RE: New to RVing

Buy gas and propane at every opportunity. We came up in late May, early June. Lots of places NOT open then. So take every opportunity to purchase gas and propane to keep her topped off. Enjoy the trip!

RE: counter extender

PGH fan: Reminds me of an old Hoosier cupboard. I like it. Functional, out of the way. Nice job.

Does anyone use an inverter for things like a laptop, toaster, coffeepot? Do you just leave it on the table or countertop? Has someone found a way to make it more attractive?

I like pics too. It helps me understand some mods better. Especially if they are pretty involved, or something I am going to have to convince the DH to do ;0)

RE: Sony Reader?

I already own a palm and use it for reading and listening to free books checked out from the library or other websites. Why pay more for ANOTHER gadget?!

dalilu97: The pit from ABC distributing looks top heavy and tippy. It would make me nervous around kids. Can it lower to the ground?

6v batts, now the electrical panel makes lots of fan noise

Please forgive me, as I am an incredibly ignorant person when it comes to electricity. My hubby is an electronics guy, but he doesn't know because we have 1st trailer.
He installed two 6v batts for me this last summer. We found the electric panel fan was going almost constantly (well, it seemed like it compared to previous set up). Is this normal or do we have something wrong? Our electric works.

RE: Alaskans-sound off

Alaskan rv-er: Now that sounds awesome. For a travel trailer/truck combo the cost is around $1000 for the ferry. Is there enough to do on the island to make a two week stay worthwhile?

Black Spruce Army camp is best. If you are PCS'ing you can get an extended stay.

And then tell all! Sounds like a great trip to Kodiak. I didn't even know there was a ferry capable of taking my trailer. Ahh, the things we learn from these forums. ;0)

Aces-n-eights: Fairbanks has a beautiful campground right in the middle of town. It is right on the river and has nice sized spots. The trees and shade helped a lot in the heat, and it was just an all around pleasant experience. Check it out. Welcome to Alaska!

RE: Alaskans-sound off

I am so glad to meet all you Alaskans. I was beginning to feel a little lonely. Everyone in the south is talking about their first trip, prepping their campers, and such . . . and it was making me miserable. Glad to hear I have company ;)
